Improving Living Quality
Adequate housing and proper sanitation facilities are a basic human right and that people deserve a decent place to live and a healthy environment for personal care. The La Hatte Community Development Project provides 15 destitute families with a new and sturdy dwelling, sanitation unit, and a community center for all residents.
The new dwellings will provide families with clean, dry, and habitable living accommodations, and home ownership that will help families retain unity; regain dignity; and attain a better quality of life. Lapromesse Ministry homes are built on a cement foundation, using concrete blocks and the structure is covered with galvanized sheet roofing.
These solid structures provide a safe haven against the naturally brutal elements of heat, wind, rain, and hurricanes. Homes are built on land already owned by the beneficiary. The recipients also contribute to the building of their home by lending manual labor during the construction process and painting the finished product.
Building Homes
Many Haitian households consist of a considerable number of members, ranging from approximately 5-8 individuals. To address the requirement for more extensive accommodations, two units are combined to create a double-unit configuration.
The implementation of proper sanitation facilities is crucial to promoting a more elevated standard of living for the community as it provides an efficient means of waste disposal, prevents environmental contamination, and offers necessary privacy. Each block will feature a porcelain latrine and a shower stall constructed using concrete brick.
The construction of a community center building will provide a central venue where residents can congregate for social events, public forums, health initiatives, and other programs designed to enhance the community's overall well-being.
